How to Get Your Space Ready for Paint

One of the most common questions we get is: "What should I do to get ready for you to paint?" Here's what you can do to help, and we'll take care of the rest!

  1. Clear the Room of Breakables: Remove anything in the room that is a valuable or breakable item, while moving ladders and tools there is always the chance that something could get bumped. We'd rather not risk it, and probably neither do you! So take those items and put them in an entirely different room, safe and sound.

  2. Take Down Pictures From the Walls: Any picture, framed item, mirror, or art work should come down and be put in a safe place.

  3. Remove Nails or Screws for Holes You Want Filled: Often times, repainting is also a time for redecorating. If you are going to put a picture somewhere else, or put something else up instead, then we can fill that hole for you to give you a fresh start for decorating. It is easiest for us to know what you want filled or left alone by doing two things: First: Leave the screws and nails in the wall for places where you will be putting something back up after painting. We won't touch those. Second: Remove the screws and nails from the wall in places you want filled. We will fill any holes with joint compound before painting for a fresh start. This step can include curtain rod brackets, and blinds brackets as well.

  4. If Able, Move Furniture: Some rooms are tighter than others. If you have a lot of furniture in a room it will make it difficult to work around, consider taking some of the smaller or lighter items out of the room completely. If able, it is helpful if you can move the furniture toward the middle of the room. However if you are not able bodied or live alone, then we can move it for you when we arrive.

  5. Have Your Color Choice and Sheen Ready: Now the exciting part! Make sure that you are 100% positive in what you want your new colors to be, and don't forget about the sheen! Typically we do not purchase the paint until the day we start, so that gives you plenty of time to figure out what color best fits your space.

That's it! You're ready! The rest we can handle for you.

What We Do to Get Ready to Paint:

Just so you know what we do to get your house prepped for paint, here are some of the first things we do when we arrive:

  1. Protect the Floors: we lay down drop clothes, resin paper, and carpet guard as needed

  2. Set Up a "Campsite": We designate a small area to put our tools and paint for easy access, that way we aren't constantly running in and out of your house.

  3. Remove Outlet Covers: This one is hopefully self explanatory.

  4. Protect from Overspray and Splatter: We plastic, paper, and tape off anything that shouldn't get painted.

Now you know the best way to get ready to transform your space. Let the painting begin!
